Job Position: General Manager, Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation

Melbourne, Australia: The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), the region’s ruling amateur golfing body, is seeking a General Manager.

“This individual will lead our organisation and be the driving force behind our strategic vision and operational success,” said Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of the Confederation.

“This role demands a seasoned leader who can inspire and guide our team, manage resources effectively, and ensure the organisation’s continued growth, sustainability and relevance to the world of golf,” added Amin.

The APGC is the representative body for 47 male and female national golf associations across Asia-Pacific.

The APGC acts as the hosting partner for major amateur events in the region, including the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC), in conjunction with The R&A and The Masters Tournament, and the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP), in conjunction with The R&A.

Also under the auspices of the Confederation are the APGC Junior Championships, APGC Senior Championships, the Nomura Cup, also known as the men’s Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship, the Queen Sirikit Cup, officially known as the Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship, and the Bonallack Trophy and Patsy Hankins Trophy, in conjunction with the European Golf Association.

Furthermore, the APGC supports member organisations in the development of golf in their respective countries.

The APGC also works to ensure adherence to the Rules of Golf as approved by The R&A, and partners with The Masters Tournament and the International Golf Federation in the promotion of golf.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

· In conjunction with the Board, develop and implement a comprehensive 3 to 5-year strategic plan to expand and improve the APGC and drive sustainable growth.

· Analyse the game in the APAC geography, identify opportunities, and position the APGC as the peak body for golf in the Asia-Pacific region.

· Monitor developments in the world of golf and adjust strategic plans as
necessary to continue to improve the standing and performance of the APGC.

Operational Management

· Oversee the daily operations of the APGC, ensuring competence, efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of our mission and events.

· Co-ordinate with member organisations to ensure alignment with overall strategy and smooth execution of events and the business strategy.

· Implement performance metrics and regularly review organisational
performance to identify and address areas for improvement.

· Work with the team to devise media and communications strategy utilising all channels to build the APGC profile in the world of golf.

Financial Oversight

· Manage the APGC’s financial health, including budgeting, forecasting, and
financial reporting.

· Ensure responsible financial management and compliance with Australian
regulatory requirements as it pertains to an Australian registered company.

· Develop and drive a plan to grow the APGC revenue base to allow the
organisation to become a more self-sustaining entity.

· Drive a strategy to elevate our value proposition and identify long-term strategic sponsors/partners.

Team Leadership

· Lead, mentor, and motivate the APGC team and Board, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.

· Set clear goals and objectives for team members, providing regular feedback and performance evaluations.

· Identify training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and
capabilities.

Stakeholder Management

· Build and maintain relationships with the Member associations and devise plans to build communication channels to ensure they are updated frequently on APGC progress and a forum for the APGC to hear what the Members’ concerns are.

· Manage and build our relationships with The R&A and the Masters Tournament regarding the men’s Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) and Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) events. Build a stakeholder map and manage the relationships of the APGC Board with those stakeholders to improve the standing and performance of the
APGC.

· Assist the Board by driving greater rigour around Board engagement with
stakeholders, develop Board and leadership succession plans in collaboration with senior leadership and prepare the appropriate Board reports and papers.

· Create a more structured communication and collaboration plan to drive greater Board effectiveness.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sports Management, or a related field.

· Track record of working in the golf industry and a demonstrated passion for the game.

· Experience in strategic planning, financial management, and operational
oversight.

· Experience in co-ordinating and running major sporting events. Golf events will be preferred.

· Demonstrated experience in successfully leading a team and complex
stakeholder management.

Skills and Competencies

· Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

· Proficiency in financial management and reporting.

Working Conditions

· A 2-year contract with scope to extend, subject to meeting financial goals and satisfactory performance.

· Full-time position, location based on candidate but preference given to Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand etc).

· Significant travel around the region would be required. Essential for candidates to hold a passport allowing for entry to nations around the world.

· Flexible working hours, with the possibility of remote work arrangements.

· The position will report to the Board and specifically the Chairman of the Board who will be responsible for performance and other evaluations on an on-going basis.
