Singapore: Stakeholders and players from Singapore’s golf community have been honoured at the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) Annual Gala and Awards dinner.
In the presence of Guest of Honour Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, individuals who have played a pivotal role in shaping the golfing eco-system in Singapore were recognised.
Lai Mun Onn, President of Keppel Club, was honoured with the distinguished service award for his dedication and contribution to the golfing community in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Tanah Merah Country Club, Sentosa Golf Club, Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore, along with SGA partners FootJoy and Titleist, were acknowledged for their international achievements.
The Awards and Gala Dinner at Sentosa Golf Club’s Grand Ballroom, were among the highlights of the annual SGA Golf Week, which also included the President’s Cup – a fund-raiser for the SGA.
Tan Chong Huat, President of the SGA, said: “On behalf of the SGA, I would like to thank our group of stakeholders for their valuable contributions and for supporting us in building a vibrant and inclusive golf eco-system in Singapore. With their continued support, we are confident of reaching even greater heights.”
The 15-year-old Chen Xingtong, who triumphed in July’s Singapore Open Amateur Championship, was named SGA Female Junior Golfer of the Year, while 17-year-old Brayden Lee, winner of the individual title at the Asia Junior Team Championship in September, received the SGA Male Junior Golfer of the Year.
Hiroshi Tai and Inez Ng were awarded Male and Female Golfer of the Year, respectively, for their outstanding performances on the global stage.
Tai won the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Individual Championship in America in May, earning starts in this year’s US Open and the 2025 Masters Tournament – the first Singaporean to compete in the two Majors.
“I really appreciate all the support I received from the SGA, my parents, sister, friends and family back in Singapore. It’s always an honour to represent Singapore at the various events around the world and I cannot wait to do that more often,” said Tai, in a video recording from the US, where he is based.
Tai is a member of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation team that will take on the European Golf Association in next month's Bonallack Trophy, a Ryder Cup-style match play event, in the United Arab Emirates.
For her part, Ng achieved a collegiate breakthrough in the US at the Cavalier Regional Preview. “I would like to thank the SGA for the countless number of times they have supported me and been there for me since day one. Without the SGA’s support I would not be the golfer I am today,” said Ng.
Shannon Tan was honoured with the Special Achievement Award for becoming Singapore’s first Olympian in golf at the Paris Games in August.
