Seoul, Korea: Kang Hyung-mo has been elected as the 20th President of the Korea Golf Association (KGA).

A Board member of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) since 2020, Kang is one of Asia’s most respected golfing administrators.

“On behalf of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, I congratulate Mr Kang on his appointment with the Korea Golf Association,” said Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of the APGC.

“Golf in Korea is continuing to grow at a healthy rate and with Mr Kang at the helm, I’m confident the country’s golfing culture will become even stronger and the game will thrive.”

Kang was first appointed as a member of the KGA’s Board of Directors in 2004. Since then he has served as Board member for eight years and Vice-President for nine years.

A long-time supporter of the strengthening of international relations for Korean golf and the advancement of Korean players abroad, Kang succeeds Lee Jong-myung, who stood down from the role as President mid-way through his term.

Kang, who assumed his new post with the KGA on June 14, will serve the remainder of the existing term through to January 2025.

Kang said that one of his immediate priorities is preparing the Korean teams for the golf tournaments at this year’s Hangzhou Asian Games and next year’s Paris Olympic Games.

“The Korea Golf Association will be reborn as an open organisation through active communication with related organisations,” said Kang.

In addition to his involvement with the APGC, Kang has been a member of the Administrative Committee of the International Golf Federation since 2014, as well as serving on the Board with the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking and the Asia Golf Leaders Forum.
