Royal Junior Showcase of Diversity, Talent and Ambition

Tokyo, Japan: Vietnam’s Nguyen Anh Minh, Indian Kartik Singh and Japan’s Mamika Shinchi lead a high-profile line-up at this week’s The Royal Junior.

The talented trio are expected to feature prominently in the elite 54-hole championship at The Royal Club.

Anh Minh and Singh both represented the International Team at last year’s Junior Presidents Cup before playing starring roles in the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) team that defeated their European Golf Association (EGA) counterparts in the Ryder Cup-style Bonallack Trophy in January.

Shinchi, meanwhile, was a member of the APGC’s triumphant team in the Solheim Cup-style Patsy Hankins Trophy against the EGA in the United Arab Emirates.

Organised by Nippon Kabaya Ohayo Holdings Inc and approved by the APGC and The R&A, The Royal Junior is also supported by the Japan Golf Association, Japan High School and Junior High School Golf Association.

With the aim of nurturing and developing the next generation of international golfers, the tournament includes 48 boys and 48 girls. The top players outside of Japan are selected by the APGC. All players must be under the age of 18 years old as of March 31, 2025.

Speaking at today’s opening ceremony, APGC Chairman Taimur Hassan Amin said: “It’s an honour to be here once again for the Royal Junior – an event that’s quickly becoming one of the most important junior tournaments in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Thanks to the support of Nippon Kabaya Ohayo Holdings and The R&A, this championship isn’t just a competition but a gateway to the world stage with the Boys’ and Girls’ winners invited to the Amateur Championships in the United Kingdom.

"Representing 47 member associations, the APGC is fully committed to creating world-class opportunities for juniors and helping develop future stars from across our region.

“Together with our partners we have worked hard to expand this event, increasing invitations to ensure both strong and developing golf nations are represented.

“This year, we’re proud to welcome 45 players from 17 countries alongside the most promising Japan high school players, making this event a true celebration of diversity, talent, and ambition.”
