Shannon Secures Sentosa Golf Club Tie-Up

Singapore: Sentosa Golf Club has announced its sponsorship of Shannon Tan, a former amateur standout who is now Singapore’s number one female professional golfer.

The collaboration aims to provide her with the resources and environment to continue her rise in the professional game by offering access to its world-class practice facilities and two iconic courses, The Serapong and The Tanjong.

Returning to her roots in the ‘Lion City’, Tan is taking part in this week’s HSBC Women’s World Championship, being hosted at Sentosa Golf Club for the 12th time.

It’s a nostalgic return to Sentosa for Tan, who represented Singapore in the inaugural Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) on the Tanjong Course in 2018, an event that was won by Atthaya ‘Jeeno’ Thitikul and also featured Patty Tavatanakit, Yuka Saso and Ayake Furue, now all Major champions.

Individual runner-up in the 2022 Queen Sirikit Cup, Tan had the distinction of representing the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) team in the 2023 Patsy Hankins Trophy at La Manga in Spain, a Solheim Cup-style match play event against the European Golf Association.

Since securing her Ladies European Tour (LET) card as an amateur at Q-School in December 2023, Tan's rise has been impressive. After turning professional at the start of 2024, she made an immediate impact by winning her debut LET event, the Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

Her stellar performances throughout the season culminated in a sixth-place finish in the LET’s Order of Merit rankings.

She also made history as the first Singaporean golfer to compete at the Olympics and make the cut at a Major Championship, an accomplishment achieved during the 2024 Women’s British Open at St Andrews.

After a well-deserved winter break, Tan has taken her impressive form into the start of her second season on the LET with a third-place finish at the Lalla Meryem Cup, the season-opener in Morocco. Her strong showing was followed by a top half finish at the PIF Saudi Ladies International.

Of her association with Sentosa, Tan said: “Training at Sentosa Golf Club’s world-class facilities is an incredible opportunity. The access to such a prestigious venue, including The Serapong and The Tanjong courses, will be invaluable in sharpening my game whenever I return to Singapore.

“This partnership is instrumental in supporting my on-going development and helping me strive for greater success on the global stage.”

Andrew Johnston, General Manager, Director of Agronomy and Resident Golf Course Designer at Sentosa Golf Club, said: “Shannon is a great addition to our sponsored player programme. Her achievements exemplify the spirit of determination and excellence we value at the club. We are ready to support her journey as she continues to break barriers and inspire the next generation of Singaporean golfers.”

The HSBC Women’s World Championship, one of the marquee events on the LPGA Tour, will see Tan compete alongside fellow Sentosa Golf Club-sponsored golfer Chen Xingtong.

Chen, who secured her spot after winning the national qualifier, will also be in the field for next week’s seventh edition of the WAAP at Vietnam’s Hoiana Shores Golf Club.
