Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates: This week marks the first time the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has a five-strong contingent lining up in a DP World Tour event.
This historical feat is taking place in the US$2.5 million Ras Al Khaimah Championship at Al Hamra Golf Club.
Leading the way for the UAE will be Adrian Otaegui, who is currently 175th in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
Otaegui has five Tour wins to his credit. After making the cut last week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, he’ll be looking for a strong performance this week at a venue where he placed tied for third in the 2022 championship.
Also playing under the UAE flag will be fellow-professional Joshua Grenville-Wood, currently 596th on the OWGR. Grenville-Wood has played in six DP World Tour events with two top-10 finishes.
In addition to the two professionals, the UAE will have three amateurs in the starting line-up.
Sam Mullane is the UAE’s highest rated World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) player in the field at 1,506th in the standings. This will be Mullane’s debut appearance on the DP World Tour.
Coming off a big victory at the 2nd Professional Arab Golf Championship in Morocco, Jonathan Selvaraj (1,656th on the WAGR) is excited to make his second start at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship while looking to continue his good form.
Rounding out the UAE contingent will be Ahmad Skaik. Skaik is making his third start at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship and is currently ranked 3,262nd on the WAGR.
A fortnight ago, Al Hamra Golf Club hosted the Bonallack Trophy and Patsy Hankins Trophy with the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation’s men’s and women’s teams defeating their counterparts from the European Golf Association in the biennial team match play event.
