Singapore: Seven members of the triumphant Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Patsy Hankins Trophy team will reunite in Vietnam in March.
China’s Ren Yijia, the Hong Kong duo of Arianna Lau and Sophie Han, Japan’s Mamika Shinchi and Aira Nagasawa, Korean Jung Min-seo and New Zealand’s Vivian Lu all made a positive impact in an emphatic Patsy Hankins Trophy victory over the European Golf Association in the United Arab Emirates last week.
At Hoiana Shores Golf Club from March 6-9, however, friendships will temporarily be put to one side as the region’s leading female golfers bid for individual glory in the seventh edition of the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP).
The seven Patsy Hankins Trophy team members will be part of a 97-strong field in the event that was conceived and developed by The R&A and the APGC to nurture talent and provide a pathway for the region’s elite women amateurs to the international stage and the opportunity to play in three Major championships.
The 2025 WAAP champion will earn starts in the AIG Women's Open, The Amundi Evian Championship and The Chevron Championship as well as the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Australian Open, the 122nd Women's Amateur Championship and an invitation to play in the Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA).
This will be the first time Vietnam has hosted the championship which launched the careers of three Major champions, Yuka Saso, Patty Tavatanakit, Ayaka Furue, and former world number one Atthaya ‘Jeeno’ Thitikul.
