Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Energy drink 100Plus and Japanese equipment brand Srixon have joined forces in an effort to spur junior golf in Malaysia through the 100Plus Srixon Junior Championship, scheduled to be played at Kota Permai Golf & Country Club.

Sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association, the 54-hole event from July 29 to August 1 aims to provide a competitive platform for Malaysian juniors to test their abilities against their peers from the Asia-Pacific region. The 90-player international field will include participants from Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The championship's main events, Division A Boys and Division A Girls for players aged between 14 and 17 (handicap 12 and below for boys, 15 and below for girls), will carry World Amateur Golf Ranking points. The development category, Division B, is for players aged between 11 and 13 (handicap 20 and below for boys, 24 and below for girls).

Malaysian juniors can attempt to qualify for the championship through two qualifying events, offering 12 spots apiece into the main event. The first qualifier will be played at Templer Park Country Club in Selangor from May 6-9, followed by an East Malaysian qualifier at Miri Golf Club in Sarawak from June 10-13,

"Continuing our two decade-long support for junior golf in Malaysia, the 100Plus Srixon Junior Championship will serve as a platform for our top youth golfers to test their mettle against the region's best," said Fraser & Neave Holdings Managing Director, Foods & Industry Engagement, Dato' Raffiq Bin Md Ariff.

"For our youth players to develop into better amateurs and future professionals, they must be exposed to high-level competition from a young age to build their skill sets. Playing against their peers from the region will allow them to gauge their level of play and benchmark themselves," he added.

Dunlop Srixon Sports Asia Managing Director Takuya Ono said: "As a responsible golf company, we are proud to contribute in a small way to developing the game of golf in our home base of Malaysia. With the opportunity to compete against the best junior golfers from across Southeast Asia and surrounding countries, we hope that Malaysian junior golfers can raise their game and compete at a higher level."
