High Praise for ‘World-Class’ Hoiana Shores Golf Club

Danang, Vietnam: Vietnam's Hoiana Shores Golf Club has been hailed as a 'world-class' venue that is primed to play host to many high profile championships.

Following the overwhelming success of the seventh Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) three weeks ago, Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), had high praise for the venue and its Robert Trent Jones Jnr-sculpted links-style layout.

During the week, Amin and fellow APGC Board members met with Dr Aylwin Tai, Hoiana Shores Golf Club’s Course Consultant, and Wee Peng Siong, the club’s General Manager, to discuss the potential for staging more events there in the near future.

As a token of the APGC’s appreciation to the Hoiana Shores management and its staff, Amin presented a plaque to Dr Tai and Wee.

Amin said: “What a fabulous week. Thanks go to Dr Tai, Peng Siong and the entire team at Hoiana Shore for welcoming us all so warmly.

“Special appreciation to Long Nguyen and his greenkeeping team for presenting the course in such outstanding condition. Hoiana Shores is truly a world-class venue and we very much look forward to returning there soon.”

Dr Tai said Hoiana Shores is keen to play host to more major tournaments and contribute to golf’s development on a broader scale.

He said: “In the future, Hoiana Shores Golf Club aims to become an education hub for amateur golf in Asia-Pacific, with strong support from The R&A, APGC, and the Vietnam Golf Association."

Wee added: “Since its inauguration in 2018, the WAAP has been hosted only by the most exceptional clubs across the region. We were deeply honoured to be selected by The R&A and the APGC as the championship’s first venue in Vietnam.

“The feedback from players and officials has been overwhelmingly positive and gives us the encouragement to stage more high-profile championships in the years ahead.”

Developed by the APGC and The R&A to nurture talent and provide a pathway for the region’s elite women amateurs to the international stage, the WAAP provides the champion with life-changing opportunities.

The winner each year is invited to compete in three Major championships – the AIG Women’s Open, Amundi Evian Championship and the Chevron Championship – as well as the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Australian Open, the Women's Amateur Championship and, by tradition, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

“The championship has gone from strength-to-strength and our girls have improved tremendously. The WAAP is a great platform from which they can springboard to the colleges in America and then become professionals,” said Amin, who also made presentations to The R&A Chairman Niall Farquharson and Vietnam Golf Association General-Secretary Vu Nguyen.

Amin said: “Thanks to The R&A, our partners in the WAAP, for their continued commitment to provide opportunities to our youth in the Asia-Pacific region, and globally.

“Under the watchful eye of the Vietnam Golf Association, the country has become one of the fastest-growing golfing markets in the world. The staging of events of the magnitude of the WAAP and the Nomura Cup will help to accelerate the game’s growth in the country.”
