Manila, Philippines: Arianna Lau has risen into the top-75 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) for the first time after she earned her fourth win of the year.

The Hong Kong number one successfully defended her Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Girls’ title at Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club.

The only player in the field to record three sub-70 scores, 16-year-old Lau posted rounds of 68, 65 and 68 for a 15-under 201 to win by five shots.

Thanks to that effort, Lau has moved up 15 spots in the WAGR to 73rd.

Korean Oh Soo-min, who finished runner-up, remains in 14th place in the rankings, putting her fourth among Asia-Pacific players, behind only compatriots Kim Min-sol (third) and Lee Hyo-song (12th) and Rianne Malixi of the Philippines (fifth).

Other Asia-Pacific players in the top-50 are Malaysian Mirabel Ting (21st), Japan’s Yuna Araki (30th), Kokoro Nakamura (32nd), Reika Miyako (34th), Mamika Shinchi (47th) and Hinano Muguruma (50th), Thai Eila Galitsky (31st), Korean Kim Shi-hyun (44th) and Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Huai-chien (49th).

By dint of finishing third behind Lau and Oh in the APGC Junior Girls’, Korean Jung Min-seo has broken into the WAGR’s top-100 for the first time, in 99th place.

In the men’s standings, Thai teenager Teerawut Boonseeor has soared 69 places in the WAGR on the back of his winning performance in the APGC Junior Boys’ Championship.

Thanks to his success at Manila Southwoods, Teerawut has progressed to 491st.

Also on the up is his compatriot Siwakorn Kriangkrai, who placed third in the Philippines, helping him rise 46 spots to 548th.

Narrowly ahead of both Thais in the WAGR is Korean An Seong-hyeon. Winner of The R&A Junior Boys’ Open in Scotland in July, An placed second in the APGC Junior Boys’ for the second year in succession.

Some consolation for him was a 50-spot rise in the WAGR, taking him to 443rd.
