Taipei, Chinese Taipei: The Taiwan Amateur Golf Championships (TAGC) will celebrate their 30th anniversary this year.
To commemorate the occasion, the Chinese Taipei Golf Association (GAROC) is inviting elite amateurs from Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) member countries to join the celebrations.
Pei Tou Kuo Hua Golf & Country Club in New Taipei City will play host to the championship from May 30 to June 2.
The event was last staged in 2019 before Covid struck. At the Nan Fong Golf Club, Lu Sun-yi repelled a strong international field to claim the men’s title, with players from Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand finishing in the top-10.
In the women’s event, victory went to Korean Lee Ye-won. In joint third place was Thai Natthakritta Vongtaveelap, twice a runner-up in the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) before turning pro late last year.
Underlining the strength of the field was the fact that Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul, winner of the inaugural WAAP in 2018, finished sixth. Last year, Atthaya rose to number one in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking.
Also in the starting line-up was then 14-year-old Tiffany Huang Ting-hsuan, who gave a glimpse of her potential when she finished 17th. Now in the top-30 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Huang won the WAAP last year and will play in next week’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Each invited team for this year’s TAGC will consist of four players (two male and two female), along with a non-playing team coach or national association representative.
To be eligible, male players must have been listed in the top-400 in the WAGR as of March 16 and females within the top-300.
For invited teams, the organisers will cover the costs of tournament entry, accommodation (one single room and two twin-sharing rooms for six nights at the official hotel), plus complimentary breakfast and lunch during practice round and tournament days.
There will also be courtesy team transport from airport to official hotel, from official hotel to golf club, and vice-versa.
