Ajman, United Arab Emirates: Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Vice President General Abdullah Al-Hashmi has hailed a historic week for Emirati golf at the Pan Arab Golf Championship.

More than 80 players from 13 countries took part in the event at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Al Zorah Golf & Yacht Club.

While it was Morocco who clinched top honours, the UAE contingent excelled with the men’s team claiming the silver medal at the 43rd edition of the championship.

Meanwhile, the UAE also captured the bronze medal at the 2nd Senior Pan Arab Golf Championship.

In the event in which the best three daily scores in each four-man team were counted, the UAE men’s team of Ahmad Skaik, Jonathan Selvaraj, Sam Mullane and Rayan Ahmed posted a 54-hoel total of 10-under-par.

In a thrilling finish in the Senior division, the UAE trio of Salem Dasmal, Saeed Malik and Jamal bin Marghoob edged out Oman for third place.

General Abdullah said: “The UAE National men’s team’s silver medal finish is a historic moment for our country.

“To see Ahmad, Rayan, Sam, and Jonathan deliver such an outstanding performance is a testament to their dedication, skill, and hard work. This achievement will inspire the next generation of Emirati golfers to reach even greater heights.

“This result in both the men’s and seniors’ game reflects the commitment of everyone involved with the Emirates Golf Federation to elevate the game in the UAE. We are excited about what the future holds for golf in our country.”

The outstanding individual at Al Zorah was Morocco’s Adam Bresnu who won the men’s individual gold and led his country to team gold with a 36-under-par aggregate.

Bresnu, aged 20, said: “It’s been amazing. I have a great Moroccan national team. We have great staff, too. I played well. I also won my tournament two weeks ago, where I shot 13-under. It’s been my ‘A’ game lately, and I’m proud of it.”

Soulieman Berrada also struck double gold for Morocco in the Senior division.
