What began as a social event in 1971 has evolved into a serious competition attracting many aspiring golfers from the region.

"Our objective is to make this tournament a major regional event in the coming years, thanks to the generous support of our sponsors. This year, we have a stellar field led by our defending champion, Mirabel Ting, who has a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) of 24, with many WAGR players from Australia, China, Japan, India, Pakistan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia."

Established in 1893, RSGC is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city and is the oldest active golf club in Malaysia. The club has been the venue for numerous high-profile tournaments such as the Putra Cup, Nomura Cup, Malaysian Open and the 2016 Maybank Championship.
