Christchurch, New Zealand: New Zealand will mount a six-pronged challenge at the 2025 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific championship (WAAP).

Based on their strong showings during 2024, Eunseo Choi, Vivian Lu, Juwon Kim, Emma Zheng, Darae Chung and Chloe So have secured invitations to the region’s most high-profile women’s amateur event.

To be staged at Vietnam’s Hoiana Shores Country Club from March 6-9, the WAAP offers competitors the opportunity to qualify for some of women’s golf’s most iconic tournaments, including three Major championships.

Golf New Zealand High Performance Manager Gregg Thorpe said: “We are thrilled to see these six players receive an invite to this prestigious event. It’s a testament to their hard work and dedication. We’re excited to see what they can achieve.”

Lu, a member of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) team that defeated the European Golf Association in last week’s Solheim Cup-style Patsy Hankins Trophy in the United Arab Emirates, is currently 68th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

At number 58, Choi is the highest-rated New Zealander in the standings followed by Kim (359th), Zheng (440th), Chung (499th) and So (529th).

There was more good news for Kim (Harbour) and Zheng (Auckland) who have been welcomed to Golf New Zealand’s National Academy, earning their places in the third phase of the Talent Development Programme.

Developed by The R&A and the APGC, the WAAP serves as a platform for Asia-Pacific’s elite female amateur golfers, providing a pathway to the global stage.

The 2025 winner will earn coveted spots in the AIG Women’s Open, The Amundi Evian Championship, and The Chevron Championship. Additional invitations extend to events such as the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, The 121st Women’s Amateur Championship, and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
